Sony Ericsson launches slew of new handsets [Mon Feb 11, 06:09PM]

Sony Ericsson unveiled a bevy of new products at a pre-show event at Barcelona’s Top Studio last night.

They include an addition to the company’s popular Walkman range; the W980 Walkman with an 8GB memory and an FM transmitter that allows it to be played through a friend’s hifi or car stereo.

The company said that from May customers will be able to access up to five million tracks and navigate their music from the external idle screen.

Among the other launches is the X1 arc-slider, the first model under the company’s new brand XPERIA. With a three-inch touch screen, Qwerty keyboard and application icons for instant access, it is designed for users of converged services.

The X1 runs Windows Mobile and will be available in selected markets from the second half of 2008. Meanwhile the new clamshell Z770 is optimised for Web access, blogging and email. It exploits HSDPA data speeds and can be attached to a laptop via the USB port to act as a modem.
