This was calculated based upon people making an average number of 7 calls – 1 local call, 2 mobile calls, 2 national calls and 2 international calls – for 10 minutes on a standard operator package.
The study was conducted by JAJAH, makers of web-activated VoIP telephony service, and found that families in the Benelux and France spend an average of €13 for calls on Christmas day alone.
The UK is the most expensive European country to make calls on Christmas day, spending €370 million, and the average household nearly €15. Italy closely follows, spending €325 million and an average of €14 per household
France and Benelux are the next most expensive, costing families €13 in France and €11.5 in Benelux.
French telecom companies are set for a Christmas day bonanza, being the country expected to make the most from household calls on Christmas day – a staggering €663 million. Spain is the least expensive for Christmas calls in Europe, charging callers a total of €207 million and an average of €9.
