Nortel offers Evolved EDGE migration path [Wed Feb 13, 03:51PM]

Nortel is talking up the potential of Evolved EDGE technology as an option available to operators considering their migration path beyond 3G.

As a software upgrade for an existing EDGE network, the infrastructure vendor claims that dual-carrier Evolved EDGE technology can more than double spectral efficiency compared to existing EDGE solutions.

Nortel says the upgrade can deliver downlink throughput of up to 1.2Mb/s, reduced latency and improved battery life compared with typical 3G devices. Evolved EDGE standardisation is being finalised in 3GPP Rel-7 with commercial deployment expected in 2009.
