“We have a roadmap that in 2009 we intend to go to 42 Mb/s on our network and within a couple of years of that we expect to be in the 100+ range,” CEO Sol Trujillo revealed in an exclusive interview with the Show Daily prior to his keynote appearance in tomorrow’s Congress.
Trujillo’s comments are one of the strongest public operator commitments to HSPA Evolved to date. According to an announcement from Qualcomm last week, Hutchison 3G, Telecom Italia and Telefonica will also trial HSPA Evolved this year.
Meanwhile Telstra’s interest in LTE confirms the technology’s status as a hot topic in mobile at present. Recent media reports have suggested Vodafone is to host a meeting with vendors and other influential operators here this week to discuss LTE plans, and vendor product announcements regarding the technology are expected to generate significant interest.
So far NTT DoCoMo and Verizon have been the most vocal about their plans for evolving their networks to LTE, whilst AT&T last week added its desire to pursue the LTE path when it announced upgrade plans for its 3G network in the US.
