The first and second day were all about the new PlayNow Arena Plus service and a brief, but very interesting look in Sony Ericsson’s kitchen where they showed us how they design new phones, what their contribution is and will be towards a better environment and they also introduced a couple of new products like the first Bluetooth Watches designed especially for women.
The third day was all about the tenth anniversary of Bluetooth. For that event the group of journalists and bloggers was reduced to some 15 people from the UK, Spain and the Benelux region.
As you may, or may not, know, Bluetooth was originally a Dutch invention from Jaap Haartsen who, back in 1998, worked for Ericsson.
After the official part of the press meeting Sony Ericsson took us to a ‘secret’ room where they showed us a sneak preview of a new Bluetooth product that is supposed to hit the markets before the holiday season (this year).
Instead of a new revolutionary headset (like the ultra small HBH-IS800), Sony Ericsson will introduce a 2.1 (stereo with subwoofer) speaker set that can pair with 5 cell phones. Music from those phones will be streamed to the speaker set (of which they wouldn’t yet reveal the commercial name) through Bluetooth (A2DP). Users will also have the ability to control most functions directly from their phone using Bluetooth.
Of course we weren’t allowed to take our camera’s into that room, but I memorized the product and with a little help from my creative girlfriend, we drew up a raw sketch of the Sony Ericsson BoomBox as I’ve named it for now.
