New N-Gage software runs on several Nokia phones [Thu Dec 7, 11:33PM]

Just over a year ago Nokia announced that they would put development of the N-Gage on hold until 2007. This week, a month before that 'deadline' passes Nokia broke the silence regarding the N-Gage.

In a press conference at Nokia World, last week in Amsterdam, the Finnish cell phone maker announced the next generation N-Gage gaming software platform. Yep, a platform, not a device.

When Nokia launches its new mobile gaming platform next year, it won't just be available on a couple of handsets, and you might not even need to change phone to get it.... read on

The Ten Mobile Commandments [Sat Jul 8, 09:40PM]

American columnist Dan Briody has thought up Ten Commandments for cell phone etiquette. Unlike the biblical Commandments, Dan's version is open to change or any suggestions you might have. Well, read for your self and see if you live up to them or if you need to go and confess your sins ;-)

1. Thou shalt not subject defenseless others to cell phone conversations. When people cannot escape the banality of your conversation, such as on the bus, in a cab, on a grounded airplane, or at the dinner table, you should spare them. People around you should have the option of not listening. If they don't, you shouldn't be babbling.

2. Thou shalt not set thy ringer to play La Cucaracha every time thy phone rings. Or Beethoven's Fifth, or the Bee Gees, or any other annoying melody. Is it not enough that phones go off every other second? Now we have to listen to synthesized nonsense?

3. Thou shalt turn thy cell phone off during public performances. I'm not even sure this one needs to be said, but given the repeated violations of this heretofore unwritten law, I felt compelled to include it.

4. Thou shalt not wear more than two wireless devices on thy belt. This hasn't become a big problem yet. But with plenty of techno-jockeys sporting pagers and phones... read on

Downgrader for PSP Firmware 2.50 / 2.60 now available [Mon Jul 3, 09:09AM]

I can imagine that a lot of PSP gamers have been waiting a long time for this one: a downgrader, that actually works, to downgrade firmware 2.50 or 2.60 back to 1.50. Now it's here, thanks to PSP Updates and Hitchhikr's exploit.

Dark_Alex, along with Mathieulh and Yoshihiro from SonyXTeam, have released the first working 2.50/2.60 downgrader. Most credit goes to Dark_Alex (as said by Mathieulh) as he is the founder of the downgrader. Also, we would all like to give our thanks to Hitchhikr for the exploit that made... read on

Girls take the lead in Mobile Gaming [Sat Jul 1, 07:25AM]

Research company Telephia recently conducted a study about the consumer develeopments in Mobile Gaming and much to anybody's surprise the results were that women are taking the lead in playing mobile games being resposable for almost two-thirds of total revenues in the Mobile gaming market.

"According to the report, US mobile game sales for the first quarter were driven by Tetris, Tetris Deluxe, Bejeweled and Mahjong. Telephia reports that female gamers accounted for 65 per cent of total revenue and 72 per cent of all revenue generated by puzzle and strategy games.", writes QuicklyBored

“The casual nature of mobile games provides tremendous appeal to women, who are not traditionally hardcore gamers by console or online gaming standards. The wireless industry has presented a hungry target audience willing to pay premium access to games through their cell phones”, commented Kanishka Agarwal, Telephia’s VP of new products.

he overall market appears to be picking up pace - according to Agarwal, “Mobile game purchases continue to grow with more than 8.6 million games bought in April, increasing 60 per cent since the beginning of the year.”
