Nielsen: Content failing mobile TV [Thu Feb 21, 11:22AM]

Mobile operators are unable to maintain mobile TV subscriber levels due to poor content, according to new research from Nielsen Mobile unveiled at yesterday’s Mobile Backstage event.

Voracious usage of mobile entertainment in the prime 18 to 34 year-old bracket across the globe would seem to be the target market for mobile TV subscription.

While this user group is indeed signing up to experience mobile TV and video services, operators are apparently finding it hard to keep hold of them.

Facebook figures on mobile [Thu Feb 14, 07:00PM]

Facebook is on a mission to make its site universally accessible, both on mobile devices and through people’s native languages.

On the mobile front, last week Facebook introduced a new platform called Facebook for Mobile Operators, which aims to provide a simple, online, self-service tool so that any operator can add Facebook’s mobile services to their network using the kind of Terms of Service model common on the Internet.

Omnifone pumps up the volume [Wed Feb 13, 11:29AM]

Omnifone is launching what it describes as the world’s first, prelicensed, unlimited download mobile music phone.

Rob Lewis, CEO of Omnifone, told the Show Daily in an exclusive briefing: “The MusicStation Max is manufactured by LG Electronics,” and while he would not say which operator would be the first to offer the phone, it is well known that Vodafone UK has close links with LG and has offered Omnifone’s MusicStation subscription service, which costs £1.99 a month.

One sided business models in the mobile TV space are putting content providers between a rock and a hard place, a high-profile executive at BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has told the Show Daily.

Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc. today announced the launch of a mobile phone portal to deliver content to mobile devices and act as a platform to promote theatrical and DVD releases.

Visitors to the mobile movie sites will be able to browse and purchase movie-related content from their mobile phones, and opt-in to receive alerts about Paramount Pictures. Crisp Wireless, a provider of mobile content management solutions, was selected as the content management software partner.

Mojungle, a mobile media company which enables users to send camera phone photos and videos to the web has put itself up for sale on eBay.

The bidding starts at 60.000 dollar but the current owners hope to get at least 250.000 dollar by the time the auction ends, December 14. So far no other bids have been made.

According to the owners the decision to sell Mojungle was a difficult one. They've encountered unanticipated and growing personal and business obligations not allowing them to make the full time commitment needed to build Mojungle into the strong brand they know it can be.

Camphones banned from movie set [Sun Dec 3, 02:31PM]

Actress Reese Witherspoon has ordered a complete ban of all camera phones on the set of her newest movie Rendition to stop the spreading of pictures taken from her and her co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.

"After separating and filing from divorce from husband Ryan Phillippe last month, Reese is adamant about not being linked to Jake in case it affects the divorce proceedings."

A source told Us Weekly that “Reese doesn’t want any rumours about her and Jake” and that the movie’s makers, New Line Cinema, have agreed to the ban - but the studio has refused to comment on the matter itself.

The Studio hads agreed to the ban but won't comment on the matter.
